I've been meaning to write an Indie creators series of articles that spotlight the many talented creators that are out there making comics against all odds and I feel deserve our attention. A few people have asked me "why would you give another artist a spotlight on your website? They're gonna take your readers!" My short answer is No they won't, my long answer is it ain't about me, it never was about me and it never will be about me; we're all in this together. Hopefully creators see me writing about them and their books and we'll get to know each other, hopefully become friends and hopefully help each other out. There's room for everyone. With that said, let's talk to the mega talented Ryan A. Leonard creator of Battle Blood!
When did you came up with the idea for Battle Blood?
I came up with the idea of Battle Blood way back in high school. My love for the idea was combined with my love for fighting games and anime like Dragon Ball Z and Street Fighter.
What is the creative team behind your comic?
My creative team consists of 3 other people I work with: Michael McClain, Jared J. Lee and Lashun Williams.
What's the premise behind?
Well, the premise of my story is about a character who's overcoming an unfortunate event in his life; he's moving past his pain in order to live the way he chooses.
How many issues do you have planned to produce?
Right now that answer is unsure, but if I'm speaking on seasons I'll say 3 for right now. My story has a long way to go.
Is Battle Blood going to be long-running series or a mini-series?
I would like it to be, but I don't want to drag the story on and on. I just have a 3 part story I want to tell, right now I'm in season one.
Because I'm a fanboy of plenty of other properties that are out there like Dragon Ball Z, Street Fighter and stuff like that. For once I want my own work to be out there. I've seen so much potential from other artists such like yourself, I see people developing fan-made manga or fan-made video games; I just want my own property so I can produce my own stories and works. Plus, this is a new experience for me that I really want to perfect. So publishing a cool!
How do you separate yourself from the thousands who self publish their books every year?
I'm not sure. I never really thought about that; I just wanna do my best to tell a good story and have fun doing it as well.
So where can fans read or get their very own copy of Battle Blood?
You can find my book on both Lulu.com and Amazon.com I'll also be working on a digital copy as soon as I get the time.
What's next for Battle Blood?
Well, I want to keep my series going; I wanna keep on developing my characters and creating great stories. As for the future, I would love a Battle Blood fighting game to be developed. Lol. That's my wishful thinking.
Are you working on any other projects at the moment?
Actually, Yes I am. I'm currently working on a second book called Nero Chaos. I've finished issue one but I'm not gonna release anything yet, I'm trying to finish the 2nd issue now and work on the 3rd issue.
Anything else you wanna share with us?
Yes, if you have a skill you're naturally good at explore it and keep improving. There are tons of people out there who can really do some amazing things. Give some attention to your God-given talent and go further on. Own your power and enjoy what you do.
